SUMMER 2016 REPORTS (Note Course Records date to 2003 and refer to current routes unless noted otherwise)

Race No 1 - Brydekirk 6.75 miles

Tuesday 19th April - Weather conditions: Sunny and quite warm

Gents - J Boardman 41.02 (2007); Ladies - C Legg 51.53 (2010)

A strong field of 21 runners took part in the first run of the Summer Road Championship. The event was the tough 6.75 miles Brydekirk route which is always popular with the Senior runners. The weather did not disappoint either as it was a perfect night for running.

First home for the men was Andy Render with a fantastic time of 41.42, followed by Rory Longmore with a time of 43.03 and third was Joe Boardman in 44.50.  For the ladies the winner was Janet Priestley in a time of 52.27, followed by Emma Kerr in 53.15 and Liz Dawson with 56.19.

There was strong age grade scores with Rory scoring highest with 81.67%, followed by Janet with a great score of 76.85% and Andy was third with 75.91%.

Eight runners recorded times which were improved on last year's race - Nicola Kennedy, Alan Cameron, Johnny Minto, Grant Seaton, John Murphy, Rory Longmore and Andy Render. It was also great to see Caroline Legg on the course taking photos which no doubt will be on a popular social networking site shortly.

 

 

Race No 2 - Hightae 6 miles

Thursday 28th April - Weather conditions: Cold and overcast (but it stayed dry!)

On Thursday evening 28th April, ADAC Seniors held the second road race in their 2016 Summer Championship Season. The race was the Hightae 6 miles route. It was a cold evening with heavy showers forecast but the weather held off which pleased the 24 runners who took part.

First  home for the men was Andy Render who has had an incredible start to the season with a time of 36.54.

Second was Michael Kerr with a good time of 39.17 and third was Kevin Plummer in 40.04.

For the ladies Emma Kerr was first in a fantastic time of 45.33, followed by Janet Priestley with 46.22 and third Nicola Kennedy on 54.26.

Janet topped the age grade charts with a fabulous score of 76.91%, Andy was second with 75.89% and third with 74.43% was Kevin.

Eleven runners recorded times which were improved on last year's race (A render, M Kerr, M Walton, G Seaton, J Priestley, R Smith, A Cameron, B Kerr, L Cameron, R Griffith & Y Kerr) and after a year off with injury it was great to see Nigel Hall back who also had a fine run. Well done to all the runners who took part and a special thanks goes to John and Jean Robson for hosting the event and for their kind hospitality afterwards.

 

Race No 3 - Holywood 5 miles

Tuesday 10th May - Weather conditions: Warm with a strong breeze

Holywood Stroll was the third fixture of the ADAC Summer Championship and 21 runners took their places on the start line on a warm evening for running last Tuesday.  Once again Dumfries Running Club are to be thanked and commended for the organisation of the event with a large field of 155 entrants.

First Annan runner on the night was Andy Render who was 13th overall in a time of 30.18. He was followed by Rory Longmore (18th) in 31.27 with Graham McLellan (19th) closely behind in 31.32.  Emma Kerr was first lady home (58th) and also first junior female with a time of in 37.26. Janet Priestley was second (69th) finishing in 38.55 (winning the FV55 category in the process) and Liz Dawson was third lady (105th) in a time of 44.53.

In the age-grade contest Rory was first (81.49%), followed by Andy (76.20%) and Janet (75.82%).  After three races it is clear that here are close contests developing throughout the ADAC runners which should make for good running over the summer.

The next championship event is the Kirkcudbright Half Marathon on 28th May.

 

Race No 4 - Kirkcudbright Half Marathon

Saturday 28th May - Weather conditions: Warm and dry

On Saturday ADAC Seniors had 16 runners who took part in the Kirkubright half marathon and 11k Beeches run. It was a warm day, too warm for some with some people having to walk due to the temperatures. Both races were really well supported with just over 200 runners talking part in the half marathon and 113 runners taking part in the Beeches run.

First home for ADAC in the men's event was Mark Whitelaw (4th overall) with a time of 1:21:41. Second was Rory Longmore (11th overall) with a time of 1:26:01 and third was Graham McLellan (12th overall) in 1:27:08.

For the ladies Emma Kerr came home in first place (95th overall) with a time of 1:52:07. Linda Cameron, who was doing her first half marathon after only running for a year, came home in a very respectable time of 2:09:44 with her running partner Yvonne Kerr, both ladies crossing the finishing line together.

Another first half marathon runner was Billy Kerr who just beat the 2hr mark with a time of 1:59:59. Completing the rest of the runners Mark Walton 1:40:49, John Green 1:41:56, Grant Seaton 1:45:48, Barry Fitzgerald 1:55:09, Alan Cameron 1:55:33 and Johnny Minto 2:01:27.  Unfortunately Richard Smith suffered a calf injury and pulled out - we wish him a speedy recovery.

In the Beeches run ADAC Seniors had two runners who are just returning back to fitness after injury. Gordon Vivers came home in 48.25 (19th place overall) and Liz Dawson came home in 59.08 (43rd place overall).

The next races in the ADAC Senior Calendar are a Park Run at Carlisle on Sat 4th June. The following weekend there is a choice of Durisdeer Hill race on Sat 11th June and then on Sunday 12th June there is Dalbeattie Half Marathon and also the Mabie 10k trail race.

 

 

 

Race No 5 - Dalbeattie Half Marathon

Sunday 12th June - Weather conditions: Dry & warm

Course records

Gents - J Boardman 86.10 (2015); Ladies - J Priestley 106.42 (2012)

The seven runners shown above took part in the 2016 Dalbeattie Half Marathon and brought home their fair share of booty in the process.

First home was Rory Longmore who is improving to top form as the season progresses. His time was 1:27:00 and secured him second overall and an excellent age grade score of 81.11% on a difficult hilly course.  Rory was closely followed by Graham McLellan who was third overall in 1:28:09 (70.53%).  Grant Seaton was third ADAC in 1:47:25 (57.43%) and Ernie Bryden completed the ADAC men in a time of 1:48:06 (61.94%).

Janet Priestley ran well to secure not only ADAC points but prizes on the day in a time of 1:51:05 (73.68%). Second ADAC lady was Emma Kerr in 1:56:11 (57.54%) and Ruth Griffith was third in 2:09:06 (56.51%).

Race No 6 - Buckland Burn Up (5 miles)

Saturday 25th June - Weather conditions: Generally warm & dry but some heavy showers

Nine ADAC Seniors headed to Kirkcudbright to take part in the 4.8 mile Buckland Burn Up run on Saturday 25th June. The weather just about held out with only a light shower during the race.  The course was very picturesque but included a challenging climb of around 3/4miles from the halfway point before a fast downhill finish back into Kirkcudbright. It was a very well organised event with 81 runners in all taking part in the race.

First for ADAC was Rory Longmore who was second overall missing out on the win by only a few seconds. Rory's time was 28.51. Second in for ADAC was Andy Render (4th overall) with a time of 29.14 and third was Graham McLellan (6th overall) with a time of 29.28. 

Completing the ADAC runners were Joe Boardman (13th) 31.43, Richard Smith (27th) 37.47, Barry Fitzgerald (35th) 39.27, Alan Cameron (40th) 40.58, Linda Cameron and Ruth Griffith (=50th) 43.35.

 

Race No 7 - Lockerbie 10k

Tuesday 28th June - Weather conditions: Overcast but generally dry during race

Gents - 35.03 M Whitelaw (2007); Ladies - 42.33 G Reid (2005)

21 runners lined up to tackle the anti-clockwise version of the Lockerbie 10k on Tuesday evening under grey skies however the majority of the run was held without significant showers although standing water was an issue on the roads.

The mild conditions perhaps contributed to some strong performances with nine runners recording improved times when compared to their clockwise runs in 2015.

Fastest on the night was Rory Longmore who continued his recent good form with a time of 37.52 (85.18% age grade). Second was Andy Render in 38.36 and Michael Kerr made a welcome return to the road running competition to finish third in 42.16.

Emma Kerr ran strongly to finish first of the ladies with a time of 47.14, followed home by Janet Priestley in 48.08 and Liz Dawson with a time of 52.22.

Rory's time secured top spot in the age-grade competition with Janet's time securing a score of 76.83% in second and the strong returning Gordon Vivers third with a score of 76.0%.

The runners who improved on last year were Rory, Andy, John Murphy, Emma, Richard Smith, Janet, Linda Cameron, Ruth Griffith and Yvonne Kerr.

Following the run there was a welcome cup of team and rolls and cakes courtesy of George & Linda Fraser and cohorts.

This was the third of the ADAC Challenge 5 Series and 12 runners have completed the three runs to date.

 

 

Race No 8 - Moffat Gala Run (15km)

Tuesday 12th July - Weather conditions: Dry and warm

Gents - 49.54 C Heaven (2004); Ladies - 71.20 A Gibson (2007)

14 ADAC members and several 'friends of the club' lined up on Tuesday 12th July for the 31st running of the Moffat Gala 15k race. In the absence of the usual reporters the following is a basic report of the results!!

First in for ADAC was Graham McLellan who is improving with every run and just missed out on a sub 60min time (60.46). Kevin Plummer (62.10) and Gordon Vivers (66.48) made up the top three.  In the Ladies' competition Emma Kerr and Janet Priestley continue to vie for the honours and on this ocassion Emma prevailed in 75.21 with Janet hot on her heels in 75.30. Rosie Allen was third ADAC lady home in 79.13.

In the age-grade championship Kevin with 75.88% pipped Gordon (75.02%) who in turn just outscored Janet who secured 74.61%.

The next scheduled Championship event is the Annan 10 mile run (20th August) although before then there are other events including Jul 21 Stag to Hind (Hill Champ), Jul 26 Castle Douglas (Gelston) 5 mile, Jul 30 Carlisle Parkrun and the weekend of 5-7 Aug is the ADAC Summer Running Festival.

 

Race No 9 - Annan 10 miles

Saturday 20th August - Weather conditions: Wet and windy

Gents - 63.58 R Longmore (2015); Ladies - 80.52 L Hopper (2011)

A field of 19 runners tackled the 10m Annan course which started at Annan Academy and headed out to Newbie on Saturday 20th August. Race conditions were challenging with heavy rain showers during the event leading to large puddles on parts of the course.

Despite this there was some excellent performances throughout the field.

First home was the continually improving Graham McLellan with a time of 64.03 min (73.18%), followed closely by Rory Longmore in 64.48 min (81 .89%) and third was Michael Kerr in 69.34 min (68.94%). In the ladies competition Janet Priestley ran strongly to record 81.29 min (73.60%), Emma Kerr was second (giving her all in the process) with 86.55 min (57.93%) and Liz Dawson was third lady home with 88.22 min (69.70%).

Rory's age-grade score was enough to secure first in that competition, Gordon Vivers secured second with 75.18% for his run of 71.51 min and Janet was third.

After the run all runners made their way to Ruth Griffith's house to enjoy a fine spread of savoury and sweet treats including a birthday cake which was shared by Ruth and Andrew Kennedy.

 

 

Race No 10 - Dumfries 'Doonhamer' 10k

Sunday 28th August - Weather conditions: Dry and mild

Rory Longmore 'roared' back into form to be first ADACer home in the Dumfries Doonhamer 10k in a close race with Graham Mclellan. There was also a return to form for Joe Boardman after a difficult time with injuries.  There were prizes for Rory and also Barry Fitzgerald.

Race No 11 - Langholm 'Doctor's Run'

Sunday 4th September - Weather conditions: Warm & sunny

17 ADAC Seniors took part in a field of 62 in the Muckletoon Doctor's Run at Langholm on Sunday morning.  Among some strong performances there was prizes for Rory Longmore, Joe Boardman, Janet Priestley, Richard Smith, Emma Kerr and Rosie Allen in various categories.

The event was well organised by Muckletoon Joggers.

Well done to all who took part,especially anyone who took part in more than one of the events over the weekend which included Parkrun and the Beeftub hill race.

 

 

Race No 12 - Dumfries Half Marathon

Sunday 25th September - Weather conditions: Dry & pleasant (windy at times)

Runners from ADAC were out at Dumfries half marathon on Sunday 25th Sept. This event is run by Dumfries running club and many thanks to them for organising a friendly and well organised event.

Beginning at Dumfries and Galloway College the runners headed towards Bankend before climbing past the Dovecotewell animal rescue centre with superb views over to Criffel, before returning via Glencaple and the tricky climb back close to Bankend. The final four miles saw the runners retrace their steps with a welcome final downhill mile back to the College. On route there were several water stations and many marshals to guide the runners and ensure everyone knew where to go.

First home for ADAC and 9th place overall was Graham McLellan in a time of 86 minutes 7seconds. Second ADAC runner and first male vet 50 was Joe Boardman in 89 minutes 26 seconds. Third home for ADAC was Gordon Vivers with a time of 92 minutes 2 seconds. Liz Dawson was first lady home for ADAC and first lady in the female V55 category with a time of 113 minutes 26 seconds. Second lady home for ADAC was Ruth Griffith in a time of 124 minutes 45 seconds. Other runners from ADAC were Ernie Bryden in a time of 98minutes 48 seconds, John Green with 100 minutes and 42 seconds and Grant Seaton in 109 minutes 27 seconds. 

Dumfries half Marathon is one of the races in the club summer road racing championship where currently Rory Longmore is in the lead followed by Graham Mclellan and Joe Boardman there is now two more races left in the calendar for the road championship with a park run at Carlisle on the 1st of October and the final road race of the season at Gretna on the 8th of October before moving onto to the winter league series.

 

Race No 13 - Gretna Green 10k

Gents - 39.31 A Render (2013); Ladies - 48.44 J Priestley (2013)

ADAC Seniors were racing at Gretna Green on Saturday the 8th of October. The race is a 10 kilometre road race along the country roads, the course is slightly undulating with lovely views of the farmland that surrounds the village. Weather conditions on the day were excellent for the runners with glorious sunshine and a comfortable temperature for most.

16 runners took part on the day with Graham McLellan winning the race with a fantastic time of 38 minutes 35 seconds setting a new course record, beating the previous best time from 2013. Second runner home was Andy Render in a time of 40.57 and in third place was Gordon Vivers in a time of 41.19. First lady on the day was Liz Dawson in a time of 53.59.  Special mention should also go to Ramos Vivers who exceeded the magical 80% age-grade score which is a fantastic performance.

The Gretna Green race was the last race in the club’s summer road racing Championship. Rory Longmore won the championship with Graham McLellan taking second place overall and Joe Boardman coming third. In the Ladies championship Emma Kerr takes first place followed by Janet Priestly in second and Linda Cameron in third. A big thank you to all who have helped with the organising and managing of the summer league including marshals, timekeepers, photographers, supporters, and suppliers of post race refreshments.

There is now a short break in the racing calendar for the runners before moving on to the winter league at the end of October. The first race being Tour De Moffat, held on Sunday the 30th of October.

 

Race No 14 - Parkrun (Carlisle) 5k

Gents - 18.42 R Longmore (2015); Ladies - 23.20 J Priestley (2015)

After 7 weekends of running, the final standings of the Carlisle Parkrun were confirmed after the run on the morning of 1st October.

In total 14 club members recorded times over the summer with some notable performances.  Special mention is due to Rory Longmore for securing a percentage score in excess of 80%, Charlie Graham for securing the over 70 year old age grade high score for the event and also to Joe Boardman and Danny Bryden who ran the October event as a sponsored challenge which to date has raised more than £1000 for The Sick Kids Foundation.

 

 

 

Moffat Fun Run 7th June

A 'fun run' was held on 7th June around the 4 mile Moffat course which starts at the Station car park, out of town towards the M74 before taking the back road towards Old Carlisle Road, back into Moffat past the Rugby Club and back to the car park.

16 runners took part on a really warm summer's evening, 10 of whom took part in the equivalent event last year, a number of them improved on their times and deserve congratulations.  Full results are given here.
