HILL RUNNING CHAMP'SHIPS 2017.

 Hill Running Championship Rules.

The best of 7 races from 11 to count, 4 points if you marshal or time keep for any event in the Championship, to maximum of 8 points.

Due to the increased number of runners now competing in the Hill Championship I have changed the number of points for a win, and therefore all other positions, 1st place will get 20 points, 2nd 17 points, 3rd place 16 points and so on.

Again because of the number of new runners as per the road runners there will be an Age Grade Championship running alongside the open championship, this will be one competition for men and women. I will use the course record of each hill race as an idea of the comparison to come up with the percentage for the age grade, this will be a bit variable when compared to the road races as conditions can affect hill races. So you might for example get 80% AG one race but only say 65% AG at another despite running just as well, however everybody’s AG will be relative at each race. Your age at the first race of the Championship will used to work your AG for the rest of the Championship even if you have a birthday during the Champs.

If you run any race that is in the FRA or SHR calendar between 25/03/17 and 11/11/17 the Langholm trail ½ marathon, Langhlom 10km trail race or the Blackwater 10km trail race then you will receive 4 extra points for each race to a maximum of 8 points in total, Club vests must be worn, also club vests must be worn at all none-ADAC events, no vest no points.

The ADAC Hill Running Championship also incorporates the events in the Dumfries and Galloway Area Hill Running Championship, so remember that you could win a class in that Championship even if you are not able to secure a 1st 2nd or 3rd place in the ADAC Champs’.

For those of you new to Hill races remember that there is a mandatory kit requirement for all SHR and FRA events these are:-

Waterproof Jacket with hood and taped seams.

Waterproof Trousers with taped seams.

Hat and gloves

Map and Compass.

If you are short of any kit talk to me or Nigel as we have spare equipment we can lend.

Finally, the most important thing, HAVE FUN everybody.

Criffel Hill Race 19/3/17

Criffel Hill race is the first race of 11 in ADAC’s hill championship series. The race took place on Sunday the 19th March. The race is organised by Dumfries running club and this year the ever-popular race had greatly increased number of participants (201 runners) as it was also a Championship race in the Scottish hill racing calendar.

Conditions on the day were fair with the heavy rain of the previous day and the morning of the race abating meant the weather during the race itself was warm and dry. However due to the heavy rain and a wet week prior to the race ground conditions were difficult and it’s safe to say it was the muddiest it’s ever been with Criffel being an extremely muddy race at the best of times.

First Annan and District runner was Andrew Livingstone in a time of 1hour 3minutes and 15 seconds and he was placed 31st overall in the race. Second was Adam Anderson 1.04.15 (35th overall) and third was Mark Whitelaw 1.10.49 (75th)

Other ADAC runners were as follows.

Graham McLellan 1.13.00,  Andy Fairgrieve 1.20.33, Rosie Allen 1.24.13, Darren Foley 1.27.06, John Robson 1.31.21, Emma Kerr 1.36.50, Alan Creighton 1.38.45, Alan Cameron 1.40.02, Billy Kerr 1.52.58, Jean Robson 1.53.27, Linda Cameron 2.06.37 and Yvonne Kerr 2.06.37.

Thanks go to race organisers Dumfries running club and to all who helped marshal and assist on the day. A special Mention also goes to ADAC’S Jean Robson who celebrated her birthday running the race along with her many hill running friends and who was awarded with cake, juice and a rendition of Happy Birthday as she crossed the finish line.
