Winter league results.

Race one - Tour de Moffat.

The first Winter League 2017/18 was held on Sunday 29th October - the popular Tour de Moffat run where 28 runners turned up  to do the event.
The 5.7 mile   run has a bit of everything with some trail  , hill and road and  takes in many areas of the town including  Gallow  Hill , Hind Hill , Jenny's Stone and a long  run back along the road into town  to finish at the Duckpond Carpark where the race started.

The weather  was fantastic but conditions were very slippy and muddy up on the hills.  Due to the higher numbers of Men   the Winter League has been split into 2 groups for this season.  The first group being the elite runners will compete for the Championship and the  rest will compete in League one where I have got to say the standard is very high also.
First home in the Men's Championship was Matthew Sullivan in a fantastic time of  37.05 mins. Matthew was closely followed home by the  very young Ewan Fairgrieve who is getting better and better by the week. Ewan turned in a fantastic time of 37.17 mins and took 6 minutes off his time from last year. Third place was very close with Graham McLelland pipping his good mate Mark Whitelaw by ONE second , Graham turning in another great time of 39.54 mins.

In the Ladies Championship first place was shared with Janet Priestley and Marie Marshall. Both ladies  came home in 53.39 mins which was a very good time indeed. Louise Hopper took  third place in a time of 56.49 and it was great to see  local lass Lynda Minto back out with the club and she came home in 59.37.

In the newly formed League one for the men  David  Pennington  was first home  with a fantastic time  of 50.48 . David was chased home all the way by Richard Smith who has had a fantastic Summer Season and is continuing his great form with a time of 51.18 . Third place was the  Alan Creighton   who came home in 61.05 mins.
It was great to see the every young Kenny Patterson  , 61.50, and  Paul and Ryan Heneghan , 56.41 , 46.48 who were guests on the day.

A massive Thank you goes to Jim Buchannan for signing the course and  all going well he will be back competing shortly. To Nigel Priestley for helping Jim with the gates , food  etc and to Barry Fitzgerald and Sandra for time keeping. Thanks also to everyone who brought food along as it made the day a huge success.

Race No.5 Dalbeattie Forest

Conditions : Cold (sub zero) , icy in places but dry.

On Sunday 10th Dec 18 hardy runners  battled through the freezing icy conditions and took on the 5 mile trail run in Dalbeattie Forest. The route was slippy in places but over all it was fine and stunning with the heavy frost on the ground.

Ewan Fairgrieve was first home again in a fantastic time of 31.11. Ewan was chased all the way with hometown fella Graham McLelland who had a great run and came home in 32 mins dead. There was a very good race for third spot with Adam Anderson just pipping Joe Boardman by a few seconds, Adam 33.41 and Joe 33.47.

Only 3 ladies turned up for the event due to the conditions and time of year. Janet had a very good run and came home in 41.04. Linda Cameron also had a very good run beating her time last year by nearly 3 mins , 49.13. Jane Pennington ( Guest runner ) also had a very good run indeed and she came home in 53.59.

In the men’s league one it was again very close with Richard Smith and Dave Pennington. Richard got the better this time and blitzed his time by over a minute and a half from last year. Richard came home in 37.14 and Dave in 38.08.  Alan Creighton took third place but  was chased home all the way  by Alan Cameron who is still getting over his Knee op that he had in August. Their times were 46 mins and  46.37 respectively.

A big thank you goes to Graham and Susan for organising the soup and  for signing the course.  A big thank you goes to Nigel and Janet for the van, stove and the endless supply of crisps and biscuits and to everyone else who brought food along.

Well done everyone.

BROWNMOOR FOREST 5.3 m

Conditions : Cold (2c) , Dry , Sunny

20 hardy souls turned up on Sat at Brownmoor  Forest- the 5th race in the ADAC Winter League 2017 /18 . It was a cold frosty morning  but conditions were fine and there very some very good performances considering the Christmas and New Year break.

The course is 5.3 miles long and  follows a track around the forest with one steep climb and another at the far side of the forest before a lovely downhill finish.

First home yet Again for the men's championship was Ewan Fairgrieve in a fantastic time of 35.55. Ewan  is having a fantastic Winter League  and it will take something quite special to beat him giving his current form so there is a challenge for a few ! .
