Message from ADAC legend Jim Buchanan

On Wednesday evening 16th August Barry and Sandra kindly travelled up to Moffat where Barry, our president, handed over a cheque to Les Bostock, Chairman of MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS  Dumfries on behalf of ADAC.  Also in the photo is Angela Todd, daughter of Maureen Geddes who had M.S. and dealt with it in a remarkable way and looked after so well by her husband Hugh and family.

The amount raised was the result of the kindness shown by members on the occasion of my 80th birthday.   You may also know I received a new cassette for my bike (to help me climb the hills) , which Kevin kindly and expertly installed.

The week of my birthday was truly remarkable, with a surprise family party on the Sunday followed by managing to get round the Moffat Gala Race on the Tuesday  evening and getting a helium balloon at the end of prize giving when many ADAC were on the prize list. Wednesday, my birthday, was a day out with Margaret down to Barnard Castle and Bowes Museum, returning through the Eden Valley with a meal in Kirkoswald. Thursday evening was brilliant when your gifts were presented and the ADAC celebratory run which included “champers” and three birthday cakes consumed under a tree at Jenny’s view in heavy rain.

Friday evening was outstanding with so many members and friends treating Margaret and I to an evening of food, drink and most important of all, the fellowship which we so greatly appreciated.

A week I will never forget, thank you all so much and as Joe has said “probably the friendliest club”, well you didn’t need to prove it, but it went well beyond that!

Jim
